Getting Started

A friend recently suggested I start a blog about the "boutique" thoroughbred racing stables my husband, David, and I are involved with - the word "involved" makes me wince as we live and breathe the horses- We are based at The Thoroughbred Center on Paris Pike, Lexington, Kentucky and from our farm on Russell Cave Road. Training race horses in a farm environment is certainly not novel and as we have been doing it for 20 years, certainly not new to us, but it does add a deeper dimension to the conditioning (body, mind and spirit) of our horses as it extends their racing careers. We have been described as a "boutique" racing stables because we keep ourselves small, hands on, specific to our way of doing things - lots of complementary therapies for the horses along side veterinary medicine - not much drug therapy - chiropractic, acupuncture, class 4 laser, pulsating magnetic therapy, tens machines, etc. - excellent nutritional program - high fat, high fiber feed - treat stomachs (equine gastric ulcer syndrome)- excellent farrier, haven't had toe grabs on our horses in 18 years - generally have been ahead of the curve for years - treating the race horses like the professional atheletes they are - loved, respected and honored and doing it with commonsense horsemanship - and just as important finding good homes for the horses when their racing careers are not realistic.
So with that introduction 2 of our charges ran at Presque Isle last night - an older horse, 8, finished 2nd in his retirement race whom David was hoping to retire on a win and another horse ran over a flock of geese and stopped. Racing hmmmm.........
